Colorless Jadeite
You have to be very careful when buying a colorless jadeite, as there are many colorless jadeite lookalikes in the market.
In recent years, albite is marketed as Ice jadeite in such cities as kunmin, ruili, and tengchong in Yunnan. As albite has very good transparency, there are either transparent or translucent and is white or greyish white in color.It can easily be mistaken as Ice jadeite by the untrained eyes.They are crafted into bangle, pendant and display items and well liked by Taiwanese.
You can use one of the following ways to ensure that you are buying the right colorless jadeite and not albite:
Use the loupe to observe its structure -albite does not have jadeite nature (fly effect) and has many white cotton inclusions.
Use your hand to weigh it, albite is very much lighter than jadeite since its specific density is only 2.57 - 2.64.
Its reflective index is 1.52-1.54 lower than that of jadeite.
Its luster is weaker than jadeite
Small bubbles in the internal structure.
Use a back light, its crystaline is quite even - usually a diameter of 1-2mm.
